Junior Cert Maths Grinds

“A good start is half the battle.” These words are very true when it comes to secondary school maths. Getting off to a good start with secondary school maths by doing a great Junior Cert exam, can be the stepping stone to excelling at Leaving Cert maths. MathsDoctor’s Junior Cert maths grinds will certainly help.

"Without MathsDoctor’s support, encouragement and excellent teaching techniques, the outcome for both our daughters would have been very different. MathsDoctor’s approach was focused and well paced and he harnessed their desire to do well and within 6 weeks we could see the difference. He wasn’t fazed having to navigate maths ‘as Gaeilge!’. The online lessons were so convenient. No driving around and wasting time and easier to schedule. ."

Junior Cert Maths Grinds

Maths grinds with MathsDoctor will certainly increase the chances of excelling in the Junior Cert maths exam, whether higher or ordinary level. 1-to-1 and group classes are available at both levels whether you’re in Dublin or any part of Ireland.

The focus is to help your child achieve the highest possible grade in Junior Cert maths. A big part of this is done by doing (and getting them to do) exam questions. The more exam questions a student does before the Junior Cert, the better they’ll do in the Junior Cert. Here is a sample video of how the lessons normally work

1-to-1 Lessons Online

From a technical perspective, the only bit of software one needs to have installed in order to do online grinds with MathsDoctor is Skype. You don’t even need a camera! The tutor and student can hear each other through the voice aspect of Skype and the student can see everything the tutor writes on the virtual whiteboard, the link to which is sent to the student at the beginning of the lesson. Do check out the short video above to see what it’s like.

Small Groups Online

The group classes work in a very similar way to the 1-to1 lessons from a technical perspective. Each student needs to have Skype installed and the link to the virtual classroom is sent to each person. No details of others in the classroom are sent to anyone to protect everyone’s privacy and again, you don’t need a camera! Everyone can hear and see what the teacher is writing on the whiteboard. Do check out the short video above to see what it’s like.

Success Stories from our Junior Cert students

Hearing success stories from previous clients always warms my heart. Here are just some of the many success stories previous clients have happily written for me

Meet MathsDoctor

Hi, this is MathsDoctor – I hold a physics degree and have been teaching and tutoring maths, applied maths and physics for 18 years. Over the years I have helped literally thousands of students with these subjects, from primary level to university level, both individually and in groups, in Dublin and all over Ireland. I achieved H1 in Leaving Cert maths (A1 when I did it), so I know what it takes to achieve the highest possible grade in the exam.

I’ve always liked maths – even from a young age. I remember trying to figure out fractions around the age of 6 and 7 and seeing how maths has countless applications in the real world fascinated me. Of course, the earlier you master something in life, the easier you’ll find it later on, although maths can still be learnt and mastered down the line.

Maths, although captivating, can be a challenging subject for many students. Each student has their own strengths and weaknesses, but with some maths grinds and a bit of effort, they can overcome these weaknesses and increase their confidence. I strive to create an upbeat and positive atmosphere in my classes, as it’s easier to learn maths this way

FAQ

For Parents

Much depends on how much work they’re willing to do between grinds and how often the classes are taken, as well as their motivation. If they’re willing to do the work I set and have a goal in mind, they can make great strides ahead in a short space of time and maximise their result in the exam.

As many as you want! (Provided there is availability).

Not a free trial, but I do offer either 40 minute or 1 hour grinds. So if you want to test it first, I usually recommend to book a 40 minute lesson.

For Students

You will know your specific circumstances better than me but ideally you should do Junior Cert higher level maths as it makes the study of Leaving Cert maths (both higher and ordinary level) easier. So although it means more work now, it makes things easier in the long run.

The priority is making sure you stay on top of what you’re covering at the moment in maths in school, so we focus on that. If that is going okay, I normally cover a topic you’ve had difficulty with before, which you’ll usually decide upon. This link details the Mathematics curriculum for Junior Cycle and also talks about the CBA for Maths.

If you have a strong foundation in Algebra, it makes the study of secondary school maths a lot easier as Algebra is like a thread that runs through Junior Cert and Leaving Cert maths. So Algebra is always a good topic to start with.
