1-to-1 Lessons Online

From a technical perspective, the only bit of software one needs to have installed in order to do online grinds with MathsDoctor is Skype. You don’t even need a camera! The tutor and student can hear each other through the voice aspect of Skype and the student can see everything the tutor writes on the virtual whiteboard, the link to which is sent to the student at the beginning of the lesson. Do check out the short video above to see what it’s like.

Success Stories from Maths Doctor’s past students

Hearing success stories from previous clients always warms my heart. Here are just some of the many success stories previous clients have happily written for me:

Meet MathsDoctor

Hi, this is MathsDoctor – I hold a physics degree and have been teaching and tutoring maths, applied maths and physics for 18 years. Over the years I have helped literally thousands of students with these subjects, from primary level to university level, both individually and in groups, in Dublin and all over Ireland. I achieved H1 in Leaving Cert maths (A1 when I did it), so I know what it takes to achieve the highest possible grade in the exam.

I have always liked maths – even from a young age. I remember trying to figure out fractions around the age of 6 and 7 and seeing how maths has countless applications in the real world fascinated me. Of course, the earlier you master something in life, the easier you’ll find it later on, although maths can still be learnt and mastered down the line.

Maths, although captivating, can be a challenging subject for many students. Each student has their own strengths and weaknesses, but with some maths grinds and a bit of effort, they can overcome these weaknesses and increase their confidence. I strive to create an upbeat and positive atmosphere in my classes, as it’s easier to learn maths this way.

FAQ

It’s personal preference. In private, 1-to-1 classes, I can tailor the lesson to best meet the student’s needs, but in a group session, the student can benefit from hearing other students’ questions.

The priority is making sure the student stays on top of what they’re covering at the moment in maths in school, so we focus on that. If that is going okay, I normally cover a topic they’ve had difficulty with before, which they’ll usually decide upon.

Not a free trial, but I do offer either 40 minute or 1 hour grinds. So if you want to test it first, I usually recommend booking a 40 minute lesson. This is one of the benefits of the 1-to-1 private maths grinds because the group classes are all 1 hour.

Normally I do, because it’s an excellent way for the student to consolidate what they’ve learnt and get maximum benefit from the lesson, but if the student is getting a lot of homework from school already, I usually don’t give extra homework – or of course if the parent requests that no extra homework is given.

We live in a world of probabilities, so nobody on Earth can guarantee anything, however when students concentrate and do the work I give them, it’s a virtual certainty their maths will improve.

Yes, both.
