Primary School Maths Grinds

The most important maths one will do in one’s life – primary school maths, is so because it’s the maths you use throughout your life day to day and everything else builds upon it. Just as a strong foundation is essential to a well-built building, a solid foundation in primary school maths will make all the difference in Junior & Leaving Cert maths and beyond.

"Thanks MathsDoctor. Isabel found the grinds you gave her brilliant and feels much more confident about maths. We are thrilled."

1-to-1 Lessons Online

From a technical perspective, the only bit of software one needs to have installed in order to do online grinds with MathsDoctor is Skype. You don’t even need a camera! The tutor and student can hear each other through the voice aspect of Skype and the student can see everything the tutor writes on the virtual whiteboard, the link to which is sent to the student at the beginning of the lesson. Do check out the short video above to see what it’s like.

Small Groups Online

The group classes work in a very similar way to the 1-to1 lessons from a technical perspective. Each student needs to have Skype installed and the link to the virtual classroom is sent to each person. No details of others in the classroom are sent to anyone to protect everyone’s privacy and again, you don’t need a camera! Everyone can hear and see what the teacher is writing on the whiteboard. Do check out the short video above to see what it’s like.

Success Stories from our Primary School Students

Hearing success stories from previous clients always warms my heart. Here are just some of the many success stories previous clients have happily written for me:

Meet MathsDoctor

Hello, I’m MathsDoctor, a physics graduate with 18 years of experience teaching and tutoring maths, applied maths, and physics. I’ve assisted thousands of students across Ireland with their maths related subjects, from primary school to university, in both one-on-one and group settings. I earned an A1 (now H1) in Leaving Cert maths, so I understand what’s needed to excel at the highest level.

Maths has always been a passion of mine, even as a young child exploring fractions at ages 6 and 7. I was drawn to its endless real-world applications. Mastering maths early makes it easier later, though it’s never too late to learn.

While maths can be tough for many, every student has unique strengths. With targeted grinds and effort, they can build confidence and overcome challenges. I aim to foster a positive, engaging environment to make learning maths enjoyable and effective.

FAQ

If the student is having any problems with maths, it’s infinitely easier to resolve them at an early stage because the longer they’re left, the more they compound. As is often said, a stitch in time, saves nine! The primary school years are where good habits can be developed that last a lifetime. Getting a few grinds during the primary school years can save many many grinds a few years later.

Most people pay for a number in a row, but whatever suits you! You can pay per session, or for a number in a row.

Normally I do, because it’s an excellent way for the student to consolidate what they’ve learnt and get maximum benefit from the lesson, but if the student is getting a lot of homework from their teacher in school already, I usually don’t give extra homework – or of course if the parent requests that no extra homework is given.

I do either 40 minute classes or 1 hour classes – whichever the parent requests for their child.

If the student doesn’t put work in between the grinds, they are very unlikely to make progress which makes a difference. If they do put the work in, there is no guarantee, but they are significantly more likely to get higher grades. The primary school years are the perfect time to develop good habits leading in to secondary school.

The more regular it is, the faster the student will make progress, but once a week is what most people opt for. Or another popular option is two 40 minute classes each week.
